So maybe the few of you who visit this corner of the interweb already know about what my past month has consisted of for myself.
I was laid off May 19th at noon.
Instead of getting upset over it, I took it in stride. Instead of worrying & crying - I packed my desk up, called my mom, traded the boxes of crap for the dogs at my apartment and hit US 59 southbound for Houston.
To me, it was a welcomed relief. Away from the stress of the unprofessionalism and the apathy of a crap job.
It was an opportunity for a summer vacation.
Friends, booze, music, and relaxation is what I saw on my horizon.
During my trip, I received a call from the head of HR. Once I arrived in Houston I called him back.
He desperately wanted to meet with me and discuss a few things. Honestly, I did not care what he had to say. I was done. But I was curious, so I told him next Tuesday would be best.
I spent a few days relaxing, applying for jobs, enjoying live music, & drinking heavily. After all, it was a holiday weekend.
Then on Tuesday, I drove up to Lufkin. Met with a man NO ONE meets with and had a nice offer laid in front of me.
- The company was going to pay me normal payroll through June 2nd, so I could meet my anniversary date.
-He was working diligently to find me a job at Power Transmission division.
( I told him I would NOT go back to Oilfield.)
- If no spot could be found, I would receive two weeks vacation pay & two weeks severance along with a strong reference to any possible employers.
Sweet deal. Especially for someone the company didn't seem to want anymore.
So I thanked him and agreed to his offer.
After all, I heard PT was like candy land, it was the place to be.
Why not take a job in a place that could offer better pay and lots of opportunity? So the next day, while I drove back to Houston to continue my youthful debauchery, I received another call from HR. The VP of PT wanted to meet with me the following Tuesday for an interview, along with two other important people.
So onward I went with my days of unproductive nothingness. Spent some time in Austin, drank, saw more music, and spent quality time with my mother.
On Monday, following celebrating my sister's 18th birthday, we both loaded in my car and went north. I spent the first half of Tuesday being bounced from office to office, person to person, for an interview process that confirmed what I already knew.
As of 2pm Tuesday I was no longer "unemployed."
(Really, I was only "unemployed" for 3 hours. Yes, I am that bad ass.)
Tuesday also involved a trip to Nac to see Wade Bowen & Randy Rogers acoustic. Perfect way to end my day.
Wednesday we came back to Houston and I finished preparing for Thursday.
Thursday was the day Erica finally became an adult. Graduated & 18.
Of course this could not happen drama free, so there was a visit to my parents by local EMS for my brother who had a low sugar spell that almost didn't end well. (I honestly feel this was a planned event, but that's a whole other post in itself.)
ANYWAY ---
Monday I arrived at Power Transmission to report to my new job with my new fabulous boss.
(Did I mention the Foundry Christmas party was at her & her husbands home? Or how we were on the Foundry bowling team together? Yea, we know each other & get along well. BONUS!)
I am officially a Pricing Coordinator working at Power Transmission.
So far, I enjoy my new job. I like my new coworkers. And my boss is the kind of boss who makes you want to achieve more and work harder.
SO thank you to everyone for the kind words, the prayers, the well wishes. It is all well appreciated.
