Big.
I was handpicked by top management to become a new master planner/international planner.
At first, I was upset and reluctant. I wanted to be a buyer until I retired. I wanted to move through the ranks of purchasing and spend my years landing big deals and overcoming the obstacles the future holds for my department. I wanted to learn steel, and structural parts, and go to down-hole school. I wanted to be the best buyer this company has ever seen.
Apparently I have already done that in my first 9 months as a buyer. I thought I was just a screw up who finally got organized...apparently not.
My boss and I had a good talk about this. And he told me he thinks this is a great opportunity for me and will lead me to greater places. And he didn't want to let me go because I do such a great job, but he knows that he has to and he wouldn't have if he thought this was not going to be a good move for me.
The master planner said the same thing when he told me about it Tuesday before I was supposed to know.
The woman over planning is by far one of my least favorite people. But beyond the fact that she thinks I'm ignorant with the system we use, she seems to think I can do what they want me to do. But no one will tell me what it is they want me to do.
Everyone is being vague.
I hate that.
HATE.
So as of Monday I lose the title of Buyer and enter an unknown world.
The foundry is so upset.
They're sending emails to important people about how great I am. They're giving me a going away potluck lunch tomorrow. They're telling me how much they're going to miss me.
I feel pretty awesome that people I hardly know think I'm this great. I know I should be happy about this.
Who wouldn't be happy about a promotion?
Me.
Ugh. I am trying to accept this.
Going to Egypt is in the agenda of this new assignment. I am also hoping someone will confirm there is a significant pay raise as well.
So here goes nothing I guess.
Ready or not, here I go...

Subject: *Priscilla (Foundry)
Guys - I wanted to let you all know how much I enjoyed working with Priscilla here in Foundry. I have seen a good working relationship develop with our Planner/Scheduler David Ormsby, and her skills have been a plus. She did a very good job in picking up Foundry Terminology, seeing and beginning to learn of all the good variables and constraints within the Foundry manufacturing process (of course there was more to go, so we hate to see her leave) but she will have a great opportunity with her new responsibility, and this will strengthen her career here at Lufkin. Priscilla's has very good computer skills, quick to learn, and is dedicated to do a good job. Again, I appreciate the setup between OF and Foundry these past several months with Priscilla, and I know I speak for the Foundry as we are going to miss her, and wish her well in her new role, - George
